Vision

At Eminence, we understand the ever changing educational world. We understand that in the 21st century, students have adapted to a more technology integrated classroom environment. In an attempt to better meet the needs, the Eminence Virtual Academy has been developed to assist our students meet their personal educational goals as well as be college and career ready.

Who May Participate

• Students and parents concerned with the Covid19 pandemic.

• Students hoping to engage in a more technological and self-paced program.

• Students who do not meet the standards of behavioral expectations of the traditional brick and mortar school setting.

• Students’ needs regarding a non-traditional schedule for family necessary employment.

• Students placed on Homebound instruction

• Students who have fallen behind academically in regards to credits or wish to get ahead.

• Current homeschooled students wishing to remain home but receive instruction through the Eminence Virtual Academy.

• Students’ medical needs placing them on an extended medical leave from school.

Design and Overall Course Layout

Students at the 7-12 level will have the flexibility to their 100% online courses at the place and time of their choice while enjoying support from highly-qualified instructors and caring counselors. We have partnered with APEX, Indiana Online Academy, and with our own teachers in order to provide credits of core instruction. Additionally, there will be a variety of virtual training and classes provided by Eminence teachers via classroom webcams/google hangouts/google classroom per grade level. These variety of courses help ensure the highest quality digital curriculum that is rigorous, engaging, and aligned to Indiana State Standards. Required credits for HS graduation at Eminence is 44 credits

Meetings

All students/parents wishing to enroll in the Eminence Virtual Academy need to complete an application enrollment form and meet with an administrator and guidance director in order to gain approval for entrance into the program.

Some students may be placed in the Eminence Virtual Academy by an administrator based on issues with behavioral expectations. A conference between the family and school officials will be conducted prior to this decision being made. Parents/guardians are encouraged to work with the designated Eminence staff when creating their student’s Individual Learning Outcome Plan. Our focus is on success, “nofail” options. Students work toward personal achievement and proficiency.

Students with IEP’s

Traditional homebound instruction students will be offered entrance into the Eminence Virtual Academy with online support from the special education staff. Students with IEP’s are allowed to enter the Eminence Virtual Academy. Services, goals, compliance dates, and all other related services will be discussed during the initial enrollment conference alongside the special education staff.

Support Services

Student support is vital to positive academic outcomes, especially for online students. Parents and students alike will have ready access to the professional team of educators by phone, email, and online conferences.

Socialization Opportunities

For our EVA, social opportunities are as important as the academic experience. Every effort will be made to provide special opportunities for experiences beyond the computer screen. Parents should contact their student’s teacher/mentor for information about socialization opportunities available, including activities offered (e.g., field trips, clubs) and how online instruction can support socialization (e.g., group projects, online collaboration). Students may be able to attend all eca’s and sports related activities based on school and IHSAA guidelines however these will be on campus and attendance will be determined by the administrator.

All socialization opportunities are subject to administrative decisions. Students enrolled in the EVA by the school due to failure to meet behavioral expectations will not have the opportunity to participate in school related functions.

College and Career Readiness

The mission of Eminence Jr/Sr High school is to prepare students for success in college and careers. Every student will be required to not only fulfill college and career coursework set forth by the state of Indiana, but students in grades 11-12 may have the opportunity to participate in one of the many outstanding programs at Area 30 or in Ivy Tech. Area 30 students must attend on campus activities at Area 30. There will be no virtual options for that curriculum. Students also will have access to counselors who will help them with college and career planning.

What are the admission requirements?

Students must be in grades 7-12.

Can students living outside of the Eminence school district enroll?

Yes, students living within Morgan or surrounding Morgan counties (Hendricks, Owen, Putnam, Marion, Monroe, Johnson, Brown) can apply and enroll pending school transfer approval. Students can access coursework 24 hours a day and complete their studies virtually.

What are the requirements for joining?

Students wishing to enroll must complete an application enrollment form. A meeting with an administrator including one or more of the requirements for enrollment listed on the main page. A students’ family must show full internet capabilities from their current house.

How are students evaluated?

Students will be assessed using our various online programs or by the highly qualified teacher. The Eminence Virtual Academy adheres to Indiana state testing and assessment schedules. EVA students are required to complete those tests in the same manner as students at traditional high schools. Specific testing dates and locations will be provided to students as applies.

Are AP or honors courses available?

AP and honors courses are advanced classes available to high school juniors and seniors in mathematics, language arts, and science. Students must show academic ability prior to enrollment into AP/Honors courses.

AP classes taken through an online platform will not be weighted, unless a student takes the AP exam and earns a score of a 3, 4, or 5.

How much does the Virtual Academy cost?

EVA is operated by the Eminence school district. It is an online program of our public school district, and it is tuition-free.

What is needed to be successful?
  • EVA students will need dependable internet service.
  • EVA students and parents need valid, working email addresses that are checked regularly.
  • EVA students given an Eminence issued chromebook must keep it in great working condition. Students refusing Eminence issued computers will be required to have either a chromebook, laptop, or desktop computer.
  • EVA students will need a quiet study space with minimal disruption.
  • EVA students will need to commit to setting aside time five days a week to keep pace with a high school academic experience.
Will students be provided with a Chromebook?

A Chromebook can/will be issued to any EVA student living in Eminence school district boundary who would like one. Students not living within the Eminence school district are subject to an administrative decision for chromebook availability. A parent/guardian must sign the Eminence Chromebook Policy.

Can students participate in school functions, clubs, music, art, sports, and career/technical programs?

Students choosing to voluntarily enroll in the EVA may have the opportunity to attend Area 30 and Ivy Tech dual credit classes. They also may take part in all social events (prom, homecoming, etc.) and extracurricular opportunities offered by the Eminence school district unless otherwise noted by the lead administrator. EVA students wishing to participate in these programs/activities must provide their own transportation and adhere to all all school, program, and IHSAA rules.

Area 30: Students in the EVA may participate in their online classes however they must be physically present at Area 30. There will be no Area 30 virtual options.

Ivy Tech: Students in the EVA may participate in their online classes in the EVA and in the Ivy Tech classroom located at Eminence. Professors will live stream classes to the students but they must be present in the class during the allotted time frame.

ECA’s: Students may have the opportunity to participate in clubs and eca’s by reaching out to the sponsor to see if they can participate virtually or not.

Athletics: Students enrolled in the EVA has the opportunity to participate in all Eminence sponsored and IHSAA sponsored sports with full compliance of traditional IHSAA rules.

Band/Drama: Students must seek out guidance from the administrator and sponsor. This is participation is subject to decisions of the above mentioned group.

***Students placed in the EVA due to behavioral reasons will not have the opportunity to participate in Area 30, Ivy Tech dual credit classes, ECA’s, or extra-curricular activities sponsored by the school. 

Can credits be transferred if I decide to enroll in Eminence High School?

Yes, credits earned through the Eminence Virtual Academy can be transferred, as all courses offered meet or exceed state standards. Because our highly-qualified staff infuses routine and rigor to the learning experience, parents/guardians can be assured that their students are advancing academically.

Is there an attendance requirement?

Students can establish schedules that allow them to spend as much time as they need to complete their lessons. However, they must stay on track to continue as an EVA student. They should plan to complete courses at the same pace as a student attending Eminence High School (freshman 12, sophomore 24, junior 36, senior 44). Some courses offered virtually at Eminence will be given at specific times as well recorded and posted to google classroom.

Will students participate in graduation?

EVA students who have completed all requirements may take part in the Eminence High School graduation ceremony. They will earn an Indiana diploma.

I was expelled. Can I attend EVA?

No. EVA is a program of the Eminence school district and does not accept expelled students.

Can I start anytime during the school year?

Yes, like any enrolling student, enrollment can/may happen at any time however transferring credits or grades may not transition accordingly with the student and a meeting will be established to ensure they stay on track.

How do I enroll?

Does my student GPA interact with Eminence GPA’s?

No, the Eminence Virtual Academy is associated with Eminence JH/SR, however it is its own entity. Students participating in EVA will not be associated with Eminence’s physical presence class rank or overall GPA.

If placed in or voluntarily choosing to placed in the Eminence Virtual Academy, am I stuck there?

No, A student placed in the EVA due to behavioral issues or other placement reasons may have the opportunity at the beginning of each school year to join the traditional brick and mortar school setting. This is based on administrative final decisions.

No, A student choosing to be placed in the EVA may have the opportunity to enroll in the traditional brick and mortar setting at the beginning of each academic semester.

What if I am unenrolled from Eminence to EVA mid semester or decide to transition to EVA mid semester.

Students enrolled in Eminence may have the opportunity to complete their classes online via virtually if enrolled in the EVA. This will be a case by case discussion. Students may have the ability to earn their current credits or they may have to start over in their current semester.
